Dr.
Alexis Artwohl, Police Psychologist and Author
of Deadly Force Encounters
"Ken Murray has
the essential ingredients that make a great
law enforcement trainer: Passionate commitment
to his mission of officer safety, sincere
respect for his students, encyclopedic
knowledge of his subject matter, and the
abilitye to communicate that knowledge
in and organized, entertaining, and easy
to understand manner. Now Murray has blessed
the military and law enforcement community
with a book that embodies those traits.
Training at the Speed of Life is THE definitive
text on Reality Based Training by one of
the pioneers ni this area. It covers all
aspects: philosophy, methodology, learning
styles, safety, equipment, debriefing,
and the nuts and bolts of constructing
and running scenarios. It needs to be MANDATORY
reading for law enforcement agencies that
want to give their officers the gift of
life, and their communities the gift of
well trained officers."

always impressed me with his passion and
creativity when it comes to scenario development.
There are only a handful of truly innovative
trainers in the combatives world. Ken Murray
is one of them. This book is encyclopedic
in its scope. Whether you're new to realistic
scenario training or an experienced trainer,
this book needs to be in your library."

John Kolman, Captain (Ret'd) Los Angeles County S.D. and Founder of the National Tactical Officers Association
"Thanks for the copy of your new book, "Training at the Speed of Life." It is apparent to me that your textbook is without a doubt the most comprehensive and well-referenced work to date on the subject of reality-based training. I am not aware of any other text that discusses the many facets of developing, conducting and controlling safe and realistic training. Please accept my congratulations and appreciation for your lifesaving efforts in this regard."

Ed Nowicki, Executive Director of ILEETA
"If you are a use of force instructor or a department training officer, you need to read Training at the Speed of Life. If you're a street cop or a field officer concerned with officer safety, you can get a great deal of self-learning by reading and applying what the book has to offer. If you haven't figured it out by now, I highly recommend Training at the Speed of Life. "

Paul Ford, Director of Marketing, Defense Technology and former SWAT officer
"It was so refreshing to read something original, instead of a rehash of training manuals and copied materials. This book is a collection of thoughts, ideas and quotes gathered not just from warriors like Sun Tzu, but guys like you and me. Murray has his own unique insights, but through a collection of others, many of which you may know, he makes the best approach to this subject and he gives each person the credit for their original thoughts. This book is chock full of ideas and opinions that will inspire you and those you train. I strongly recommend this one to my beloved teammates, my friends and former colleagues in the TTPOA."

Steve Holley, High Springs Police Department
"I was only 30 or so pages into the book when I wrote last - I'm going to upgrade the rating of your book from excellent to "possibly the greatest freakin' book I've ever read" ( OK, that's hyperbole ). But it's really an instructor's dream. It's forced me to get out my colored post-it markers and highlighting pens. THANKS! "

Jerry Staton, Affordable Realistic Tactical Training
"I was one of many instructors that met you at the ILEETA conference in Arlington Heights this year and purchased your book Training at the Speed of Life. I am taking the time to say thank you for compiling such a wonderful resource. Having been on both ends of RBT for several years (receiving and teaching) I thought I knew most of the answers, but found I have barely scratched the surface. I just finished my first run through of the book but it will not be my last. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement."

Don Gold, Tactical Trainer (South Africa)
"I'm now on page 174, chapter 3. So far, your safety rituals and protocols are addressing most of the concerns I have had regarding the potential hazards of RBT. I don't think I've ever read a DT book that is as professionally compiled as this one is. In fact, I know I haven't!
Although there are many other excellent books on the market (and I have them all), this one is the all-encompassing "one-stop shop" and will in my opinion go down as the departure point for effective combat firearms training."

Chad Dailey, President of Warrior Combatives
"I just received the book "Training at the Speed of Life" and I am blown away. This book is phenomenal. The table of contents alone will get any good instructor excited about its contents. The best part is that even if the author or the company provides training based the book, it is neutral enough for use by all trainers and all programs. It gives you an excellent outer shell that will allow you to fill in the blanks with your own skills and knowledge that separate you from other trainers. And if your not a trainer yet, you will be after one reading!"

David Blinder, Personal Defensive Training
"I just wanted you to know that I've finished a first read of your book and it's awesome! Your attention to detail can be seen throughout. You present the information in a highly logical manner and looking back, it's hard to find a page without a highlighter mark. Good job and I look forward to future books and to training with you in person."

Mike Dismuke, Tactical Instructor and former Marine
"It was good to meet you at the SOCOM show and get a copy of your book. I have just finished reading(!) it and had a big "aha" that I wanted to share with you. Reading your book was like a big "holy s**t" to me. I feel I have found the FoF bible. I have often said at our weekly live fire training sessions that something seriously is missing. I felt that every training evolution we did contained the big assumption that deadly force was warranted and all we did was work on the physical skill sets. What I felt we needed was something that would test/train our abilities to recognize/react to deadly threats, which to me would seem to be an area of critical importance, yet is never tested. Your book articulated what I was thinking and even pushed beyond it. The physical skills are but one part of the triangle, with stress being another, and the killing enabling factors, which I hadn't considered. Much food for thought here. I will be doing some FoF soon to get some experience in these matters. I would eventually like to attend your instructor course. I feel this kind of RBT is definately the wave of the future."

Corey Culler, Indiana State Police
"I have received Training at the Speed of Life and I can't put it down. I have read On Killing and On Combat and will be reading several other books both of you have listed in your works. Thank-you for putting out quality information and no doubt making better police officers out of those who are willing to train to a higher standard. I am one of those instructors who has stood there and shook my head at the students in disbelief of their action or lack thereof. After using deadly force in a SWAT operation, I found that I owe it to the students and myself to research why we act or react the way we do and be able to give them an answer to the scenario training. (Shame on me for not doing it sooner) Being involved in SWAT for nearly 10 years, I have had more opportunity to be involved in RBT with the use of SIMUNITION, Paint-ball, AIRSOFT, Red Man, etc. than the regular road Trooper. I want you to know that you will have given me and my fellow instructors more tools to provide quality RBT to the Troopers of Indiana and other local law enforcement agencies. Thank-you."
